BB2C Focus Projects: Problem Scenario Project
We did it again! This is our fourth year of partnering teachers with local business representatives for an experience that impacts all involved, and then some.
The Problem Scenario Project is designed to get real-world problems in front of students to solve. Not only are they real-world, they are also current, local, and relevant. Participating teachers work with their assigned business/community partner to develop a scenario that connects to curriculum and comes directly from the work world of their partners.....which is phase 1 of this project. Phase 2 has the business partners attending class during the fall semester when the teacher implements the scenario with students. BB2C is all about career awareness, and having local business representatives in the classroom explaining complex, open-ended problems that they encounter will open some students' eyes to the realities of those positions. Completing this process might also educate the participating adults.
Jennifer Wells is participating for the fist time this year, and is teacher from Belpre City Schools. "My business partner Jesse educated me on what his company, Pickering Associates, does. He also described for me his many different roles within the company--his primary role being an environmental scientist." Jennifer is excited about the opportunity for her students to work with Jesse this fall. This is Jesse Daubert's second year of participation, as last year he worked with Fort Frye High school.
Lauren Copen teaches Sports Medicine/Athletic Training at the Washington County Career Center. She is partnered with Madonna Lott who is an Athletic Trainer for Marietta High School, which is a position provided by Memorial Health System. "I am very excited to engage my students on ethics and social media. This is my 4th year implementing the problem solving scenario so the real excitement comes from the students and how much they learn from the business professional and each other, but most importantly themselves."
In all, ten teachers from around the area participated this year and were partnered with representatives from Pickering Associates, Memorial Health System, Buckeye Hills Regional Council, Peoples Bank Theatre, MId-Ohio Valley Players Theater, and TechGROWTH Ohio.
