7th Annual (Virtual) Family Career Awareness Day

Tonya Davis, Program and Event Facilitator

If you have been following BB2C for the past few years, you know what time of year it is - Family Career Awareness Day (FCAD)! If you are new to FCAD, then let us tell you about it. Every year, hundreds of students in grades 7 and up, and their parents, attend to meet local business representatives and learn about career opportunities in our communities.  The format is similar to a job fair which allows students to practice networking skills and learn how to interact with businesses.  By encouraging students and their families to explore career opportunities together, FCAD enables parents to support their children in making an informed career decision.

This year's event will look a little different than in the past.  For 2020, we will virtually showcase a diverse panel of local businesses who will answer questions about career opportunities and pathways in the area.  The event is this Thursday, October 29th from 5pm-6pm. And we will be replaying the event at 7pm for those who unable to attend live. Memorial Health System, Marietta Electrical JATC, Burgess and Niple, Micromachine Works, and Operator Training Committee of Ohio (OTCO) will be a part of our panel.  For up-to-date information regarding the companies represented on our the panel, keep an eye on our Facebook page.  Register for the event to receive a link. You can also email us with questions.  We look forward to having you attend!

Student attendees who fill out our post-event survey will have the opportunity to win door prizes, including gift cards and a tablet.  Thank you to Washington County Electric Cooperative for sponsoring Family Career Awareness Day this year.  And thank you to OTCO for providing us the technical platform and assistance to put this event on.

In addition to our virtual panel, we will also be unveiling a resource page of videos for teachers, parents, and students to explore additional opportunities with more companies on our website, BB2Careers.org, starting this Thursday.  Teachers and parents are encouraged to have their students view these videos and use them as part of their learning.  Students interested in job shadowing or interning with a company after watching the videos are welcome to email Hunter Warsinsky, Placement Coordinator.  If you are a company that would like to submit a video for our resource page, please email Tonya Davis, Program and Event Facilitator.
