Volunteer as a Career Mentor!

Building Bridges to Careers fosters student, business, and civic relationships to inspire career choices through experience, entrepreneurship, and education.

VOLUNTEER CAREER MENTOR TRAINING

Did you know that the classes kids take in middle school can determine which classes they can take in high school?  And that the classes they take in high school set them on a path that will prepare them for or deter them from potential careers after graduation?  It may seem like engaging middle school students in conversations, activities, and programs to prepare them for a future career is too early, but the truth is it is exactly the right time.

You can help prepare kids to be successful in their careers by becoming a Career Mentor with Building Bridges to Careers.  Our Career Mentor program matches middle school students with professionals in our community.  Career Mentor volunteers are trained and receive resources and tools to help middle school students develop personal and professional skills while also helping them think about what they might want to do for a career.

On average, Career Mentor volunteers meet with their students once a week.  They help their students develop and work on goals, build skills such as organization, focus, teamwork, and communication, explore different career pathways, and provide supportive relationships to help the students succeed.

In 2019-2020, we had 48 mentors and 95 students complete 588 mentoring hours.  You can be one of our mentors in 2020-2021.  The program may end up looking slightly different due to COVID-19, but the need our students have for supportive mentors remains the same!

2020-2021 Mentor Training is from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and includes lunch.  Dates and locations are:
