Win Money For Your School!

Can you solve an industry problem by designing the answer?  That is the question that BB2 is asking high school students!  Teams from five different schools in Appalachia Ohio will be presented with a problem and provided with 2D and 3D design web-based software to develop and design a solution.  Each school team, which needs to be comprised of five students and one teacher, will have to use their knowledge of STEM as well as their own creative and critical thinking skills.  Once each team submits their design, the BB2C Makerspace will bring them to life using our Laser Cutter or 3D printer!

Teams will receive the scoring rubric and specific criteria on the first day of the challenge.  Scoring and feedback will be done by industry professionals and local manufacturers.  One team will be awarded STEM Champion!  They will receive a trophy as well as a $3000 credit to purchase STEM equipment of their choice for their school.

Individual participants will also be scored and awarded.  Prizes for individual winners are a Flashforge Adventure 3 Lite 3D Printer, Oculus Quest 2 VR Headset, and $200 cash.  First-place receives first-choice, second place receives second-choice, and third-place receives the final prize.

Team teachers, who are responsible to putting together and registering their team, supervising and mentoring their team to ensure they meet deadlines, and finding time and opportunities for their team to meet during the challenge, will receive a $1000 stipend and the opportunity to receive 2 graduate credit hours from Rio Grand University (at a cost of $330).

The BB2C Summer STEM Challenge is funded by the Governor's Office of Appalachia and prizes are sponsored by the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers Coalition.

The school application is open now!  Teachers and schools can apply here.  If the school is chosen to compete, a second registration link will be provided.  Applications are accepted through May 3.

You can email makerspace@BB2Careers.org with questions or for additional information.

Do you know a school or teacher in Appalachia Ohio who would be interested in putting together a team?  Help us spread the word!
