S.T.E.M. Pen Pals: Volunteers Needed!

Building Bridges to Careers encourages kids to explore skills, opportunities, and career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through a variety of programs and projects. Our summer S.T.E.A.M. camp, funded by the Governor’s Office of Appalachia, received over 60 applicants for 25 spots. Our new STEAM-2-Go kits have been booked for the entire fall semester, and we are starting to book them for the spring semester as well. And, we have just partnered with a new initiative for the 2022-2023 school year; STEM Pen Pals.

S.T.E.M. Pen Pals was created and is coordinated by 7th grade Marietta Schools science teacher Crystal Barnett-Sheaves. The project helps show 7th grade students what S.T.E.M. career pathways can look like. We are currently looking for volunteer pen pals from all S.T.E.M professions. We welcome all levels of experience and expertise including undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs, professors, industry professionals, government employees, educators, healthcare professionals, engineers, and more.

Volunteers will be paired with a student and agree to write two letters in response to letters received by their student. For more information, including example letter, and the link to become a volunteer, check out bb2careers.org/stem-pen-pals or email our Coordinator for Community and Career Connected Learning, Kristi Leonard-Webber at klwebber@bb2careers.org.
