High School Intern: Taylor Newton, Williamstown HS

Internship opportunities should just be available for college students, right? Wrong!!!!  High school students in Washington County and attending Williamstown High School can participate in internships with local employers.  Building Bridges to Careers has helped place 19 high school students in local internships this fall. This is a great way for high school juniors and seniors to learn more about careers of interest to them.  Local opportunities have included manufacturing, construction, dentistry, cosmetology, veterinary science, fitness, marketing, water treatment technician, and office administration.

Taylor Newton is one of the many high school students who is having an extremely rewarding experience with her internship.  She began her internship at Frye Dental Group in September.  Taylor is a senior at Williamstown High School.  When Taylor first met with BB2C in May she shared her interest in pursuing a career as a dental hygienist.  Taylor likes art and describes dentistry as “an art” in helping patients with their dental care. Her most enjoyable experience with Frye Dental Group was the opportunity to observe a patient get a crown on his tooth.  The staff at Frye Dental have been very supportive and encouraging towards Taylor. Taylor’s advice to other high school students is to “take advantage of the internship program, it’s a great way to learn about possible careers and extremely beneficial with college applications.”  Taylor intends to attend WVU in the fall.

BB2C would like to express our appreciation to all of the local businesses that provide these internship experiences for our students.  As a result, students are learning competencies important to local employers and preparing for their futures. Our local employer’s desired competencies were collected through the Portrait of a Graduate process completed this past summer.
For those Interested in an internship during the summer or fall of 2020, complete this interest request link and BB2C will be in touch with you https://buildingbridgestocareers.org/hsinternship.
