Makerspace Makeover: Come Visit
Jared Wittekind, Makerspace Coordinator
Despite being closed to the public for the past two months, our Makerspace staff has been busy finding ways to continue to serve the community while taking this as an opportunity to improve our services. Amid producing protective equipment for essential workers, we’ve made significant renovations to our tech space, fiber arts space, and common area.
When entering the Makerspace, you’ll notice a homier environment in which to work on your laptop, collaborate with others at a conference table, have a cup of coffee, or draw inspiration from the many impressive projects from our makers on display.
Our tech space has made major improvements that include a lab of powerful Lenovo Ideacentre touchscreen computers featuring Autodesk Fusion 360, Meshmixer, Prusaslicer, and Inkscape design software with more upgrades to software happening regularly. Our Prusa 3D printer has been upgraded to include an overhead filament feeder to reduce filament jamming on complex jobs and allow for easier changing of filament. Additionally, our fiber arts space has moved to a larger, brighter room in which members and class participants can enjoy ample comfortable work space.
It is our ultimate goal that the Makerspace become as comprehensive a resource for makers as possible and we’re continuing to make significant progress towards that. We encourage anyone who wants to learn more about what we offer to stop by for a tour to see that we truly have something for makers of all skill sets.
We know that COVID-19 has cancelled many people’s summer plans and we hope you’ll use this as an opportunity to see what we have to offer. Since the coronavirus has made things difficult financially on a lot of people, we’re discounting new memberships to twenty dollars a month now through July 31st. If you’re not interested in a membership, you can still sign up for one of our classes.
