Program Recap & Upcoming Events

Heather Miller, Outreach Facilitator

This fall, BB2C was able to offer our annual events and programs via virtual platforms.  Family Career Awareness Day and our Discover Mental Health and Discover Law Enforcement events had strong turnouts and garnered positive responses.  Our quarterly Community & Business Advisory Council Meetings and our Career Mentoring, Job Shadowing, Internship, and Student Ambassador programs with local middle and high schools are ongoing.  And we continue to support Students Solving Problems, which engages high school students in health issues in our community, health careers, and philanthropy.  Plus educators from the region and beyond took part in our Real World Problem Scenario training to bring community and career connected learning into the classroom and help inspire student career choice.

We have also already had a number of new offerings for 2020-2021: Our Discover MFG! Contest for 11th & 12th grade students helped highlight Discover Manufacturing Day. Work-Readiness Workshops for students and career seekers are now available each month.  The BB2C Parent Liaison Program invites parents to assist us in inspiring career choice for local students.  And our new BECAN service-line allows us to bring together and support professions in other communities who are working to bridge the gap between education and employment.  The inaugural Appalachian Community & Career Connected Learning Summit was a great way to highlight BECAN's work.

This spring, we will continue to offer both familiar and new opportunities to our students, educators, businesses, and community members.  Upcoming spring events include Discover Industrial Careers in January and Discover Engineering Day in February.  FDIC Money Smart classes are being scheduled for this spring.  And we will also be offering several Prepare for the Fair Workshops to introduce students to this year’s virtual Career Connect Job Fair on February 10.

Finally, BB2C’s Makerspace and BB2C’s Small Business Incubator continue to provide hands-on learning and youth entrepreneurship opportunities to our students, while also supporting local entrepreneurs and makers in our community.  Both can be found in our Epicenter, located at 107 Lancaster Street, Marietta, OH.
