Harmar Days Lego Derby & Miniature Art Show
The BB2C Makerspace was excited to be a part of the biggest Harmar Days festival yet. This annual festival highlights beautiful historic Harmar Village, which is part of downtown Marietta, Ohio. Historic Harmar Village also happens to be home to the BB2C Epicenter; the building that houses our offices, Makerspace, and Small Business Incubator.
The BB2C Makerspace showcased creativity and hands-on learning during the festival by inviting kids and adults to take part in a Lego Derby. For $1, participants were able to design and race their very own Lego cars, using the Makerspace's derby track. Fifty cents of each dollar went towards the Save Harmar Bridge campaign. The other fifty cents went into the winner's pot, to be won by the person who designed the car with the fastest time.
Over 250 races were held. Kids and adults of all ages tried their hands at building a speed-machine on wheels. The race was tight, with multiple people claiming the fastest time, until they were knocked out by a faster car. In the end, Mike Gray of St. Mary's West Virginia had the best overall time.
Harmar Days was also where the BB2C Makerspace unveiled the Marietta Miniature Art Show. This unique fundraising effort invites people to make and donate their own beautiful masterpieces to be showcased in art galleries all over town! But wait, there's a little twist... Each gallery is a 5.5 inch x 9 inch shadow box that will display several miniature creations that are each approximately four square inches small.
