Internship Opportunities Available!
This Thanksgiving, BB2C is thankful for the opportunity to provide internships to students, businesses, communities, and other organizations who oversee internships. Over the past two years, our internship program has evolved to focus on offering paid internships to high school students in grades 9th – 12th in over twenty counties in Appalachia Ohio.
The impact of internships is strong- they can help students decide on a career pathway, solidify their plans, or even change their path. They don’t just positively impact students though. Internships allow businesses to be a proactive part of the workforce pipeline and help inspire career choice. Organizations can directly show students the skills they need them to know to be successful in their field or industry. Internships can also create stronger community connections for students, helping students see a professional future in their community.
Recently, BB2C learned that we are able to increase the number of paid internships opportunities in the region. We are currently looking for students interested in paid internships and businesses who would like to host an intern. BB2C helps with matching and onboarding students to businesses, and we are available to both the student and the organization throughout the internship. Students can access funding upfront to help with transportation and initial costs, and they can choose what field, industry, or business type they would like to intern through.
A great example of these new paid internship opportunities comes from our work in Noble County. BB2C, together with Rural Action, was able to match 16 students from two high schools with 3 different businesses and the Village of Caldwell. The internships focused on eco-tourism. Students worked with their organizations to prepare for the holiday season. They cleaned, decorated, and helped run events; one student oversaw the online shopping platform for the local grocery store. Tiffany Leanord, owner of NoCo Loco, was exuberant about this opportunity. She said, “You have no idea what this means to us. You have helped us so much.” Caldwell’s Mayor, Misty Wells, echoed her excitement by sharing, “This has been the best thing to happen in years in our community!”
