What did students discover this fall?
Students had the opportunity to explore accounting and manufacturing this semester. And next week, they’ll have the chance to explore mental health. Our Discover Day series provides half-day events that bring together professionals from a specific field with students from the region. Students have a chance to do interactive activities, have engaging discussions, and network with people to learn about their career pathways and the work they do.
All three of our Discover Days were hosted on-site. Perry & Associates sponsored and hosted Discover Accounting Day this past September. Their staff put together an entire morning of activities for twenty six students to explore different career pathways in the field. Thermo Fisher hosted Discover Manufacturing Day in October. Twenty four students were able to tour the business, hear from young engineers, and learn more about career opportunities in manufacturing. And on Thursday, December 8, fifty students will be visiting Marietta Memorial Health to engage with ten different professionals from various organizations in the community. Discover Mental Health Day is sponsored by the Appalachian Children Coalition.
Discover Days are open to all 9-12th grade students in Washington County, whether they attend a public, private, or online school or are homeschooled. If space allows, we also welcome students from neighboring counties in Ohio and West Virginia, including Noble, Monroe, Vincent, and Wood.
Potential spring Discover Days may include engineering, law enforcement, and the arts. Interested in hosting, sponsoring, or participating in a Discover Day event? Let us know! Email Kristi Leonard-Webber at klwebber@bb2careers.org.
