Celebrating Community Creativity: BB2C Makerspace and Peoples Bank Theatre Team Up for Ben Folds

The vibrant community of Marietta was buzzing with excitement during
Marietta Main Street’s First Friday Event as the BB2C Makerspace collaborated with the Peoples Bank Theatre to honor the renowned musician Ben Folds, who will be performing on October 16, 2024, as part of his Airplane Request Tour. This partnership culminates in a unique community art piece that captures the spirit of creativity and musical inspiration.

On First Friday, the BB2C Makerspace set up an engaging art station outside the theatre, inviting local citizens to unleash their creativity by crafting paper planes. This interactive experience not only fostered community spirit but also contributed to a stunning 6-foot sculpture designed by local artist and Makerspace member, Victoria Freeman Powell. The sculpture vividly depicts sheet music transforming into soaring paper planes, symbolizing the joy and freedom of music taking flight.

"Between this fun project and the 2 ribbon cuttings for murals earlier this evening, October is officially ART-ober in Marietta. I love it!" said Victoria as they attached paper planes to the ever growing sculpture. "I believe this project embodies the essence of Marietta’s artistic community, showcasing how collaboration can inspire and uplift. Each paper plane crafted by participants will be attached to the sculpture, creating a colorful and dynamic representation of collective creativity."

As an exciting bonus, one lucky participant who created a paper plane will be randomly selected this spring to win two tickets to see Ben Folds live in concert. The winner will be announced on
Peoples Bank Theatre's Facebook page. This adds an extra layer of anticipation and connection to the event, making the art piece not just a tribute to music, but also a celebration of community involvement.

Join us in this celebration of art and music! Come see the stunning sculpture at the Peoples Bank Theatre and experience how creativity can unite and inspire at the Ben Folds concert, which has been postponed to April 12, 2025.

Visitors and staff alike enjoy live music and local food trucks at the October BB2C Makerspace Open House.

Celebrating the BB2C Makerspace

On Saturday, October 5, our Makerspace hosted a community open house. The weather was perfect, and from the moment we opened the doors we were greeted by visitors. The atmosphere was electric as people enjoyed classes, members worked on various projects, and visitors explored our space. It was a great reminder of why we love our community.

Classes offered during the Open House included "Paint and Sips" and Rope Bowl Sewing.

As much as we love showing off our space, the real highlight of the event was the incredible collaboration with a handful of local businesses and musicians. Sips Coffee Truck served their amazing beverages, including the “Paint Water”, which they concocted especially for the event.  J’s Dog House stopped by with a huge variety of their delicious hot dogs. We had wonderful musical entertainment from Madeline and Jake Dunn, Hannah and Levi Westfall, and our very own Makerspace Director, Jared Wittekind. They all generously donated their time and talents to make the open house a success.

We're so grateful for the incredible turnout and the warm reception we received. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a truly memorable day!
