Here are some key takeaways from the participants, focusing on their journeys of exploration and growth in the context of their work with Total Media’s Street Team.

Maddie Walborn, now a criminology major, reflected on her internship experience: “This program has truly transformed my summer. It’s been more than just an internship; it’s a chance to explore my future while having fun.” Her enthusiasm for engaging in different activities underscored the value of hands-on experience.
Sabella McCarthy highlighted the benefits of trying out multiple roles: “This internship has opened doors for me. Working on broadcasting and writing commercials has helped me discover what I’m passionate about.” Her insights emphasize how the experience clarified her career interests.
Building Essential Soft Skills
Throughout the internship, students developed crucial soft skills that are vital in any career:
Communication Skills: Engaging with peers and the public helped interns like Camden Robinson enhance their communication abilities. He noted, “I’ve learned to navigate both the technical aspects of radio and the importance of connecting with people. It’s a balance that’s crucial for success.”
Teamwork and Collaboration: Many interns, including Max Porana, emphasized the importance of working alongside others. “Working with the other street team members made the challenges easier to tackle. We supported each other, and that made all the difference,” he shared. This collaborative environment fostered a strong sense of teamwork.
Problem-Solving: Interns faced challenges that required creative solutions. Hayden Jervis remarked, “Learning to operate audio equipment and produce radio ads was eye-opening. It taught me how to think on my feet and adapt quickly.” This hands-on problem-solving experience was particularly beneficial for building practical skills.
Memorable Experiences
Interns shared memorable moments that reinforced their learning and growth.
Jade Sikes described a bonding experience during a rainstorm: “Taking shelter together turned into a memorable moment for our team. It reminded us that we can rely on each other.” This moment showcased adaptability and teamwork in action. Highlighting the impact of community-connected elements of the experience, Jade continued, “Participating in community activities boosted my confidence and helped me engage with people more effectively.” His reflections illustrate the importance of public engagement and interpersonal skills as well.
