Christmas Magic at the Makerspace

Christmas Magic at the Makerspace

Jared Wittekind, Makerspace Director and Heather Miller, Outreach Coordinator

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  And Christmas feels so last year.  But we’d be remiss if we didn’t stop to look back on the work the BB2C Makerspace did this past December to help people get into the Christmas spirit while also supporting local causes and groups.

The Makerspace was contracted by three local organizations to create custom Christmas ornaments.  When all was said and done, our staff made almost 2,000 laser-engraved wooden ornaments.  These ornaments commemorated historic elementary schools from Warren Local Schools, which recently consolidated, closed, built, and remodeled their schools.  They encouraged people to have a “Merry-etta Christmas” while raising money for Marietta Main Street to support the downtown.  And they thanked People’s Bank employees for their service to the bank and the community.

These ornaments turn out better than we could have hoped for; they are now timeless reminders of a year of transition for many.  And it wasn’t just 2020 that was challenging - Santa’s elf, in the form of Lynn Yost at Micro Machine Works, saved Christmas (or at least our Christmas orders) when he helped Makerspace staff with equipment repairs right before the order deadlines.

We look forward to continuing to work with these, and other, local businesses, organizations, and groups looking for custom products.  If you are a business, organization, or an individual looking to have something custom-made for your store, fundraiser, home, etc., email Makerspace@BB2Careers.org to learn more about our contracting services.  We can produce one-of-a-kind items and artwork, as well as mass produce products to meet your needs.  Items can be created by our content experts in our:
