Meet Evan!
I am the Makerspace Intern, I will be helping run our STEAM summers camps as well as helping out around the shop troubleshooting and building things. I will be working under [Makerspace Director] Jared Wittekind.
Doing the Work Together
At the beginning of the school year, BB2C met with administrators and educators at each school district in the county to establish the goals they had for their district. BB2C collaborated closely with these schools, who are official BB2C School Partners—Belpre, Frontier, Fort Frye, Marietta, Warren, Wolf Creek, the Washington County Career Center, and Washington State College of Ohio. They included educators, students, and community members to identify their unique needs and objectives.
The Problem-Based Learning Challenge
Design it! Solve it! Create it! This is what all 5th through 8th grade students at Wolf Creek Local Schools and Noble Local Schools were asked to do through the Problem-Based Learning Challenge. Students were asked to choose one of three problems presented to them and, in groups of three or more, solve it.
Empowering Educators through Rural Teacher Fellowships
In Appalachia, Ohio a unique initiative is invigorating education. The Rural Teacher Fellowship, spearheaded by OHIO University and BB2C: Building Bridges to Careers, targets teachers in rural school districts, aiming to infuse their classrooms with Community and Career Connected Learning (CCCL).
STEAM and AI
“In the heart of our community lies a haven for young minds eager to explore, create, and innovate: the Makerspace. Amidst the whirring of 3D printers and the hum of robotics, a homeschool club finds its home, embarking on a journey unlike any traditional school environment could offer.”
Bridging Understanding
What do you need to know about being a mental health counselor? This is the question that 7th grader Gabriel Inman had. Through BB2C’s Career Mentor program, he was able to interview counselor Larkin Warsinsky from the Southeastern Ohio Counseling Center.
Sun Power Takes Center Stage at Marietta's Earth Day!
BB2C’s Makerspace partners with area businesses and organizations to bring to life new ideas and innovations that underscore what thriving communities look like. This collaborative project harnessed the power of the sun!
State-Wide High School Tech Internship Opportunity
The Ohio Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation provides funding for high school students who intern with employers in technology-based positions. BB2C was selected to be the intermediary for this program for 25 counties in Southeastern Ohio. The program reimburses employers for hosting high school interns in technology-focused positions.
2023 Business Partners of the Year
Bridging the gap between education and employment is all about business partners connecting with and working with educators and students. BB2C’s 2023 Business Partners of the Year worked through our programs and events to engage with schools in unique and deeply appreciated ways.
Navigating the Professional Jungle: Vinton County High School's Mock Interview Program
For Vinton County High seniors, this wasn't your run-of-the-mill interview prep. According to one student, "It helped me get ready for real-life interviews." The program isn't just about questions; it's a preparation for the unglamorous reality of the professional world.
Interlocking Visions: A Creative Exploration of BB2C's Why
WHAT, WHY, and HOW are important questions not only for BB2C’s staff, but also our board members. Staff members Emily Bentley and Jenna Stewart designed a new activity to engage our stakeholders in reflecting on their connection with and vision for BB2C’s missing using a fun, unique shape.
Learning to Make Good Decisions Before Making Career Decisions
Success skills don’t just help you in your career, they also help prepare you to choose your career. Middle school career mentoring helps students succeed. A highlight of the program is the annual field trip to Marietta College for the students and their mentors.
Real World Problem Scenarios
"I'm so excited to give our students the chance to do something student-led," expressed [a] participant. "I'm learning that our students don't get many opportunities to be pushed like this, so I think they're going to be excited for the freedom and change of pace!"
Real World Problem Scenario envisions a future where students not only grasp theoretical concepts in the classroom but also apply them in real-world settings.
Students Solving Problems
Students are working to solve behavioral health problems in their school and their communities. This county-wide program brings together youth-led prevention, entrepreneurial problem-solution-action, and service-learning models while showcasing healthcare pathways to students.
Healthcare Pathways
50 high school students from Washington and surrounding counties learned from presenters from Washington State Community College, Memorial Health System, and Washington County Career Center-Adult tech. The day was sponsored by Par Mar stores, Smitty’s PIzza, and Memorial Health System.
